MIX: 90’s Homecoming

Joy squared.

MIX: 90s Homecoming combines September’s back-to-school season with the unforgettable energy of the 1990s. Dust off your Doc Martens or Air Jordans, throw on your freshest fanny pack, neon shirt, or head-to-toe denim outfit, and get ready to dance all night, spin the ultimate nostalgia-fueled set featuring your favorite boy-band classics, girl-group anthems, grunge tracks, and hip-hop beats. This is how we do it: it’s Friday night, September 5, 2025! For me, any chance to go to Homecoming (since I never actually went and certainly never actually went wearing what I would have KILLED to wear), I’m in! My longtime dedication to the museum and particularly this regular event remains strong.

It was like every other MIX I have experienced, just a blast! There was one cool occurrence. The month prior, my secret became known to a very good friend (so far there has been no change in the friendship). I was wo-manning my position and someone walked by that I absolutely knew. But I had never seen her at the art museum, and it is someone I have played (male me) pickleball with. If I walk into my backyard, I could probably hit her house with a stone, she lives that close, less than a quarter mile as the crow flies. When she walked past, she was with people I had seen before, and I let my guard down and waived to her. Had I realized how I knew her in that moment, I doubt I would have done that. Well, I could not have outed myself to a better human being! She was amazing and we danced quite a bit after my shift ended. I cried on my way home, I was so touched by her kindness.

My outfit was terrific! I seemed to be the only person there that got the “homecoming” part of the event theme. Everyone was in their 90’s gear. So here is a goofy photo shoot I did (after doing another goofy photo shoot earlier this day, coming to a blog near you soon).

The closet you see here is where hundreds and hundreds of items of women’s clothing is stored in our basement.

The day prior, September 4, 2025, I had to run some errands.

This is what I wore walking out the door.

What a fabulous few hours! Stop no. 1, I got a gel manicure. Then I went to Crate & Barrel to pick up a package. Next what was an amazing bit of shopping. I purchased a bra a few days prior, which I recently mentioned. Well, this gal always wants her panties to match her bra, so I went to Pink recently (in boy mode) to get two matching panties, but I paid full price. When I checked out, I got a $20 off a $50 purchase coupon. Taking advantage of the coupon, which also included a free fragrance and a 5 for $35 panty sale, I headed back and returned the two pair of panties and got five pair of panties, a skirt (on clearance marked down 50%) and the bottle of fragrance. Two panties for all of this and a $6 total refund to boot! I then turned that $6 into another skirt at H&M. For the grand total of $1, I netted three additional panties, the fragrance and two skirts. Not too bad. Then on the way home I had to make an ATM deposit only to find the ATM down, so in the bank I went.

Yes, I went super girly. Yes, I know the t-shirt was a bit thin and a little tight, but the absolute thrill of going from place to place, walking all over the mall was bliss. And I even got a hug from the SA at Pink who helped me. Good day!

I wore the Pink (the brand and the color) skirt home from the mall.

This is what I looked like when I returned home.

As the shirt says, You Are What You Believe.
