Dee Does Durham Redux–Part 1

Lookee who stopped by!

About two years ago, I realized my university was playing Duke in football in Durham, North Carolina. Since then, I’ve been mentally planning to attend the game, because my friend Renee (and her husband John) live in the area.

Mental plans became real plans and both schools actually became good football teams in the interim, so it was a matchup between teams that won ten and nine games a year ago, thus adding to my interest.

My other interest is Renee enjoys (read: loves) seeing me dressed and actually bought me my first pair of heels back in the late 1980’s. I had also visited her in March 2023, and all of our interactions were with me dressed.

I had an early flight and once I arrived we planned on going to lunch, so I decided to fly pretty. That meant getting up early, getting the train to the airport, and getting on the plane. I wore a dress Renee, and I had bought together on my 2023 trip. I was aiming for the business professional look.

I had one hiccup going through security. They had sniffer dogs working and when I walked with another guy the dog reacted, meaning we were both pulled aside. I was third in line, so I had to wait for the TSA to clear the other two. That took about 20 minutes, but I finally went through the scanner. As I was wearing forms–wear them or have in luggage???–the screening found hot spots around both my upper and lower bits, requiring a pat down. The TSA agent–a woman–asked if I wanted a private screening, and I said no. I’ll just say she was fairly thorough and I had some unexpected physical contact.

The flight and picking up my rental car were uneventful. I drove to Renee’s house, changed into a more heat friendly black summer dress, and we ventured off to lunch. After lunch, we went to a local department store, tried on some clothes. Renee found a dress she liked, but I didn’t find anything I wanted. As Renee has health issues, I dropped her off at her home. I went to my AirBnb, changed into a top and skirt combo I had recently purchased.

The skirt and top combo were new additions to my wardrobe, both from American Eagle. The top I saw when my wife and I were in New York City a couple of weeks ago. She stopped in an American Eagle/Aerie store, and the top caught my eye. The day after returning from New York, I had a lunch with former co-workers at a mall food court. The mall had an American Eagle, and they had a rack of the same top–on sale for about $10. As I was there, I checked out the other items on the discount racks, and found the black skirt. As I was in boy mode, I didn’t try either on, hoping they would fit (the top did, but I had to exchange the skirt for a size smaller, which I did a couple of days later at our local mall).

I returned to the same mall I had been to with Renee. I bought some foundation from Sephora, briefly buzzed through White House Black Market, and then went into Nordy’s. I found a couple of sparkly sequin dresses in black and silver. I already own the very same dress in a multi-color, red, and blue versions, so I was deciding whether to add to my collection. I held up both the black and silver to take pictures for my GG friend Ms. Dee-ism, and we both thought the silver looked better. I tried it on, and decided to buy it. The price was $20 plus tax, and I had $23 in credits, so it was free.

After Nordy’s, I drove to the Cheesecake Factory for a late (and nice) dinner –and a carryout slice of coconut cream cheesecake. A fine ending to a nice day.
