Bowie, need I say more! This was my favorite of his, but I cannot argue against Young Americans, Golden Years, Fame, Changes, Suffragette City, The Jean Genie, Rebel Rebel, China Girl, Blue Jean and so many more.

Which leads us into the evening before the vacation, July 11, 2026! My new friend from Cool Cleveland and the man directly responsible for my removal of the ads here, invited me to this event. This post is a bit of a personal trip down memory lane. I guess many of my posts of late have been such trips. Anyway, come along!
A brief summary of the evening: David Bowie in NEO illuminates why and how David Bowie chose Northeast Ohio to kick off his first-ever US tour, creating an international superstar. In addition to live music, the show features exclusive video interviews with WMMS Radio DJs Billy Bass & Denny Sanders, Bowie’s drummer Woody Woodmansey, and pianist Mike Garson, whose first gig with Bowie was that 1972 Cleveland debut show, and Mick Ronson biographers Rupert Creed & Garry Burnett speaking from Hull, England, the home of The Spiders from Mars. Look I understand maybe three of you could give a whit and maybe me and one more person know the WMMS folks. In the pantheon of rock music in America, WMMS and the photographer (and now friend of mine) Anastasia Pantsios, were critically important to the history of rock and roll in this country and without WMMS, Cleveland does not have the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Anastasia’s very significant resume, in a very abbreviated form here, includes work which appeared nationally and internationally in publications like Rolling Stone, Spin, Village Voice, Esquire, National Enquirer, Goldmine, Guitar World, USA Today, and People; and in books on Van Halen, Cyndi Lauper, Culture Club, Tina Turner, Bruce Springsteen, Kiss, Motley Crue, David Bowie, the Pretenders, U2, Judas Priest, the Plasmatics, Scorpions, Todd Rundgren, Joe Walsh, and Eric Clapton; as well as general-interest rock books, like Norm N. Nite’s Rock On Almanac. In addition, her work has appeared on album covers for Eric Clapton, Southside Johnny, Patti LaBelle, Kathy Mattea, AC/DC, Styx, Kurtis Blow, and Robert Palmer, among others. No big story, I was at the show for about two hours. I had to scoot a bit early due to the length of the drive home and our vacation the following morning. It was wonderful for me to walk into a venue alone and immediately see two people I knew beside the gentleman who invited me! The show itself was quite enjoyable.
And no, I do not own a Bowie shirt, but I did put on my red shoes…

2017, I was a frequent volunteer for Mercury Theatre Company, RIP f’n COVID! I spent the summer (and a few others) working a few shows, but THIS one was memorable on so many levels. I sooooo miss this place (despite my looking God awful).
