Do It Again

Here we go, back, Jack...

In keeping with the theme of musical titles for posts, “Do It Again” was the song that introduced us to the great Steely Dan (a free Kandi’s Land subscription to anyone who knows, without Googling, what Steely Dan means). I have very vivid memories of this being my introduction to what music is and was and laid the foundation for my love of music above everything and anything else (beside family). If forced to choose between music, sports, television and Kandi, it would be the easiest decision possible. I would choose music every time. I attended Catholic school (no wonder I am screwed up) and remember my seventh-grade class. That was back in the day when there were actual nuns teaching, but we had some lay teachers. That year we had Mrs. Ferguson who taught mornings and Mrs. Vokas who taught afternoons. The latter was sort of a hippie chick, and she played the Can’t Buy a Thrill album for us frequently. I remember it like it was yesterday, with really no other specific, detailed memories of my grade school years.

Do It Again was also what I did this week. Dinner with the BFF and our great friend, Carrie (both of whom I had just seen at the Very Sherry Christmas celebration). The entire evening was simply three ladies talking, sharing. There was nothing forced, just natural conversation, which for me is not that simple otherwise. Thank you both for being such amazing human beings and great friends.

Two quotes stood out to me this day. One “Hello, cutie pie!”. I stopped on my way home from work (looking every bit the truck driver I am) to pick up a prescription and the woman, who is a friend, greeted me that way. My response was “no, not at the moment…”. What a sweet woman! I told her I would stop back when properly dressed, which I did, but I could not find her and the pharmacy was very busy, so I didn’t want to get in the way.

The second quote was from Sherry, “Are they real?”. She should know better…. 😊

How’d we do with the outfit this day (the boots recently picked up on my antiquing afternoon that was just posted about)?

  1. Okay I’ll bite…only because I heard a DJ say it on the radio many years ago and it lodged in me. Donald Fagen and Walter Becker who started the group, were in the midst of recording their first album. Which I think was “Can’t buy a Thrill” (Not Googling😊)…
As I remember hearing it, one of the songs featured the use of a steel guitar played by a session musician named Dan. Either Fagen or Becker said this to him: “You need to come in on the steely, Dan. Thus was born the groups name. I’ve often wondered if that was correct. But never curious enough to investigate it. I’m with you on music. There is no life without it.

The outfit’s nice. I like the red hair and the side sweep. The boots I would have eschewed for some cute white Keds.

That’s just my opinion though. I have others if you don’t like it 🤣.
