My four Dee visit to New York Cit-Dee was coming to an end, but I still had a half Dee to stroll around before I had to catch my return train to Philadelphia.
The weekend in Philadelphia would be a return to guy mode, attending a three day music festival hosted by WXPN, a Philadelphia rock (and other) radio station. I’ve been a regular listener (over the web) for about 20 years, and the timing was right to attend their festival. As a bonus, my adult son was coming down from Brooklyn to attend with me.
I planned to wear slacks and a top to wander around New York and then wear on the train, but it was warmer than I liked so I donned a flowered summer dress with my blue Keds. I hit some thrift stores, found (but didn’t buy) some amusing license plate mash-ups, including ones that said “Loving Life” (definitely), “I Love You”, and “Be Happy”, along with the giant teddy bear.
After a slice of pizza for lunch, I retrieved my luggage from my hotel and walked to the train station for my train ride to Philly, which was uneventful. I retrieved my rental car, and because of contactless check-in at my hotel (your phone unlocks the door) I didn’t have to worry about my name not matching my presentation (not that I worry anyway).
I changed into a more casual outfit of jeans and a favorite top and headed to a Macy’s in downtown Philly to see if I could find the black junior’s dress I had half fallen in love with in New York (about a week later Macy’s had a 30% sale so I bought it online, so I hope it makes an appearance in these pages soon). I found a virtually empty store, but not the dress, and tried on a couple of things. Time was short, the options were few, and I wasn’t feeling it. I stopped at a Shake Shack for dinner, and drove back to my hotel, to get organized to return to guy mode for my son’s arrival the next day.
Postscript: During my morning run the next day, I discovered there was a Rivers casino about a mile from my hotel. Had I known, I probably would have headed there instead of Macy’s. I decided on Plan B; that after I dropped off my son on Sun-Dee night, no matter how late (his train was scheduled for 10:30 PM), or how early I had to get up the next morning (dropping rental car off at 6:30 AM), I was going to have a last night dressed, and so I shimmied into the slinky blue dress again and headed to the casino for a couple of hours on Sun-Dee night–and as the pictures show, I did.
The music festival was fun. Not the biggest of names, but some I knew and enjoyed their music, and so did my son. Not bad for my first music festival at my age.
Little did I know the next Sun-Dee I would attend my second, but this one in rock girl mode. Read about that next Sun-Dee.
