Bathing Beau-Dee

Australia is known for having lots of beautiful beaches. Having been to a number of them over the last 40 years, I can attest to that (we were on two different Hawaiian islands a couple of years ago, and many didn’t compare to the Australian beaches my wife and I have visited).

Around Melbourne, the beaches aren’t as nice, because they are on a large bay, and it’s just not the same as an ocean beach. The beach near our apartment in our Melbourne suburb is ok, and fairly good for swimming (saw a ray swim about 15 feet underneath me a couple of weeks ago, which was cool), but a lot of the sand is trucked in as opposed to natural.

Of course, complaining about a beach that is a 10 minute walk from our apartment, when I’m normally more than 500 miles to the closest ocean beach, is probably something that doesn’t deserve much sympathy.

And if there are beaches, there are bathing suits and bikinis, and I like both. I’ve both bought some the last couple of years and also inherited some of my wife’s prior suits. Earlier this year I found a sporty bikini top and bottom, a one piece, and a bikini bottom at a thrift store, and the total for all of them were less than $10 US.

My beach body still isn’t what I’d like it to be–I’ve lost about a third of the twenty five pounds I’ve like to lose–but that hasn’t stopped me yet from hitting the beach in something cute and fun. I had one last chance to beach out a couple of weeks ago, but it was actually too warm to be comfortable, and my shade shelter kept blowing into me. So it goes.

And any display of beach wear for me has to include a bathing suit photo shoot my GG friend Michelle and I did at her (now ex) boyfriend’s backyard pool. That was an amazing day.

Back to 2025. Michelle’s bought some new swimsuits, I have another bikini I ordered on line weighting for me when I return to my US home, and we’ve both discussed a pool/beach day. It’s not beach weather yet, but the optimist side of me says that means I have time to whittle off a few more pounds to improve my look.

Headed back home after ten fun weeks Dee-own Under. With my son visiting for a month, my chances to go out were minimized. However, with my wife planning to stay an extra couple of months in Melbourne, I will have unsupervised time, and unsupervised time means Dee time.

While the cat’s away, this mouse plans to play.

  1. Dee,
What a selection of bathing suits and bikinis. Your beach body is way better looking than mine.

I never have, and never will put on a bikini.

    You go girl!
