August 14, 2025, I decided to invest in myself and set up a makeup consultation. It was way beyond my budget but worth every single penny plus!! The following pictures, left to right, is my usual makeup routine, me without makeup prior (shield your eyes) to the appointment and the end result.
Once we finished, I cried like a baby. It took about two hours. We went through how to do everything and the order she suggested. She did the left side of my face and then I did the right. Her order is different than mine. Going forward, you will not see an immediate change as I have to invest in many very different makeup items and brushes and overhaul my makeup kit. Not cheap, but I will do it over time. I felt like the most beautiful girl in the world! The joy is palpable. You always see me smile, but not like this.
Her studio was located in a store and warehouse that sells jewelry and I was her first client in the new studio. After we finished, I took the opportunity to do my obligatory photo shoot, content you know, in the store front.
I certainly could not call it a day, looking like this! I headed to Crocker Park, a great outdoor mall, on a glorious day. Walking around in a sundress, noting better! I was going to have a cocktail or two at an outdoor bar, but instead used my head and invested the money I would have spent on the drinks in a fabulous bikini from H&M and an amazing cold shoulder summer dress from Dry Goods. You will see both soon. The best part, as it always is, was taking my time and trying everything and anything on and getting complimented on my sundress from a few people.

It doesn’t get more honest than this. August 15, 2025, I could not wait to get that new bikini I mentioned above, purchased from H&M, into the world. Literally no more of a story that I am in a “don’t give a shit” mode right now. Bikini. My own rat’s nest of a head of hair. Barely any makeup on top of the quickest shave ever. Out the door. All I did was to lay out to get a good tan, snooze in the shade, snap a few pics and get back to reality. I say this with all sincerity, that top fit me like it was made for me. When I got home, I lingered in it for another hour or so.
Let’s hope your morning coffee is done before you gaze at these pics!

The fact is we can’t live without makeup so it’s worth getting the basics right , it always amazes me the how it can change our features . Makeup is an enhancer not a coverup , often we fall into the trap of more is better the art is learning how little you need to set you up for the day .
Like you I use to apply lower eye lining until a GG friend who had great makeup skills told me my eyes would look better without because it makes them look bigger . She also suggested using a peach shaded blusher rather than pink shades which does work on an older complexion .

Kandi, just loved your post, you look so feminine even without make up. Your pictures are gorgeous, hairstyle is so cute.
I am getting makeup lessons as well. Makeup is an art form, the better we can apply it the more confidence we get in enjoying this wonderful and enjoyable side of who we are. It’s also important to get the right type of makeup for your skin type and eye color. I usually go to Ulta and ask for help in guy mode, I show the girl a picture of ma as Julie and they are always so helpful.
That swim suit looks fantastic on you, your figure looks so lovely. It is such a pleasure reading your posts and seeing your gorgeous pictures.

Kandi you looked great ! But I think you always do. Over the years I have tried different makeup products. The professionals will always make you look great, that’s their job. I occasionally go to Sephora and get a makeover and am always happy. Makeup is practice I believe.

Makeup is a favorite of mine. On non-work days, I will have at least mascara on.
I enjoy my last makeover, but wish I had got more of a lesson with.
