Providence House is Ohio’s first and one of the nation’s longest-operating crisis nurseries among the 70+ in operation in the U.S. and Canada.
They offer free, voluntary, non-custodial emergency shelter to children newborn through twelve years old, actively living in crisis situations that place them at risk of abuse or neglect. Want to make a difference? Make a donation.
December 10, 2024 was the 29th annual benefit, now an annual tradition for me.

So, why do I do this? Let’s take a look.
- Attending a high-end event (we raised well into the six figures, so you can imagine I was the poorest person there). ✅
- Get dressed as “dressy” as I wish. ✅
- See existing (cis) friends (which underscores acceptance). ✅
- Making new friends. ✅
- Making a difference. ✅
- Being positively noticed. ✅
- Contributing (in my own very small way) to the improvement of society. ✅
- Plenty of hugs and compliments. ✅
- Changing minds one at a time (that’s how it works people). ✅
- The absolute love of my fellow grinders (bartenders, servers). ✅
- Building my rep and making connections. ✅
- Free food and drinks…. ✅
- Becoming the fabric of an event or a place (as I have done in a world class art museum, among other places). ✅
- Loving and being loved. 🎇

The evening was delightful as we overcame the absence of one particular volunteer 😉 whose nametag just sat there, looking so sad…

Natalie, the amazing human being above with me runs this unbelievable organization. I will reiterate, I go to these events, one after the next (many upcoming as well) and people are truly happy to see me. I make them happy, they make me happy. If I could only monetize this, I would be the richest girl on the planet!

I feel it’s wonderful you do what you do , sadly the World has so many people who choose not to get involved .
The bottom line is you and I have the freedom to choose , we can participate and make a difference because we’re allowed to do it without question and of course we want to do it . One of the wonderful awards is when we can’t obligue people tell you how much they’ve missed you because you’ve become part of their lives .
