What Is Your Supernature?

Thank you, Gwen, for your inspiration, always!

Have you ever wondered what truly defines the heart of who you are—the traits or abilities that are woven so deeply into your being that they feel instinctual, even natural?

I call this your “supernature.” Unlike supernatural abilities from the movies, your supernature isn’t about bending the laws of physics. Instead, it’s about tapping into those inner gifts and perspectives that make you authentically, powerfully yourself.

For me, my supernature comes from being transgender. It means I move through the world with the ability to see, understand, and empathize with both male and female perspectives. This isn’t just about changing how I look or who I am—it’s about a richly layered understanding formed by life experiences on all sides of the spectrum. My supernature lets me be a bridge, offering insight, empathy, and connection in a way that is both rare and valuable. That perspective, forged through challenge, learning, and courage, is something nobody can take away from me.

But supernature is different for everyone. Some people’s supernature comes from having grown up in multiple cultures, blending languages and customs in a way that lets them connect naturally across boundaries. For others, it’s a relentless curiosity—the drive to ask “why” and dig deeper in every situation. Maybe your supernature is resilience, shaped by overcoming adversity, or kindness, shining bright even when it isn’t easy.

Think of it like this: your supernature is your personal essence, your instinctive approach to life. It’s that thing you do so naturally people are often surprised by it. Maybe it’s your ability to find patterns others miss, to remain calm under pressure, or to turn any gathering into a welcoming space. It could be the courage to stand up for what’s right, the creativity to see possibilities in every problem, or the patience to listen when someone needs to be heard.

The beauty of supernature is that everyone has one; sometimes we just have to pause and recognize it. It could be humor that diffuses tension, empathy for those in pain, or the wisdom to know when to speak and when to listen. Maybe you haven’t named it out loud before—but trust me, it’s there, quietly shaping everything you do.

So, I ask you…
What is your supernature? What quality do you bring into the world that feels as natural and necessary as breathing? I encourage you to think about it, embrace it, and, if you’re comfortable, share your supernature in the comments below. Who knows—you might help someone else recognize the special gifts within themselves, too.

Let’s celebrate our supernatures together. After all, it’s our unique inner strengths that make this world a richer, kinder, more interesting place.
