Friday, April 25, 2025, was a very busy day. I had to take my car to the dealership for a scheduled repair early in the morning, but they found that a different part needed to be replaced, not the one originally planned. I couldn’t wait there for 2-3 more hours, so I rescheduled the repair and drove home. It was frustrating, but I was able to leave sooner and get ready for the rest of the day.
My Venus order had arrived that morning, and I was excited to try on the two navy dresses, black denim miniskirt, and navy heels. As soon as I put on the first dress, I knew it would be perfect for the rest of the day. The heels fit and looked amazing, but I decided to wear my black flats for the day and save the heels for dinner that night with a friend.

As I was finishing my makeup, the doorbell rang. I had an issue with my shower hose leaking and wasn’t sure if the plumber could come, but here he was! I quickly moved my makeup into the bedroom, straightened my wig, and went downstairs to open the door. He replaced the hose as it had broken and left within 15 minutes, during which I made sure I was ready to head out. I grabbed a granola bar and a soda for “lunch” and got into the car.
The important appointment I had made for the day was at a wig salon north of Boston, a 40-minute drive on I-95. I requested a private session as I would be taking off my old wig and showing my bald head. Nancy, the owner, was so welcoming and genuinely happy to help me look at her synthetic wigs. Her son came out as trans several years ago, and he encouraged her to advertise her support for the community. She told me she loved my dress and how well I had done my makeup – yes, she was selling but I loved hearing the compliments.
Nancy immediately understood the style of wig I was looking for and brought out two in a medium length, slightly shorter than my current one. They were hand-tied with a lace front, and I was nervous about the cost. Of course, they looked fabulous, and I stood with the mirrors to see the back with a wide smile on my face. We tried a few others that didn’t work for me, including one darker brunette in the style I liked just to see the color. When I told her that my budget wasn’t able to buy that day, she was so disappointed and even tried to lower the price so that I could go to dinner with the new wig. I had to decline, but there will be a better opportunity at some point in the future.
We hugged and she put the information on the wig into her file on me so that when (not if) I was ready to buy, it would be waiting for me. She had even asked if I was transitioning, the second time in two days that I had encountered that response. I’m a looooong way from that step, I can’t imagine how that could happen at this point in my life. I know of several people who did transition late in life, I just don’t see that in my future. I am really content with getting this type of opportunity, though I’d be fine with a little more regularity.
Seeing the possibilities gave me a boost in confidence, and during the drive home, I felt so happy. I texted my friend Samm about where we would meet, and she was willing to travel a little bit to make my drive easier. So I asked her to meet me at a Yard House for 5 PM, so I could fix my makeup and change into the new navy heels. I took lots of pictures at home, trying new angles and positions. Another purse from my wife’s collection, along with some nice jewelry, finished the look.

I drove to the restaurant and was fortunate to find a good parking spot, as it is in a busy shopping area. I knew it would also fill up quickly on a Friday night! I was texting Samm and my wife in separate threads when Samm walked up to me. She is a jeans and boots girl and is skinny so she looks good, but she knows I love my dresses and heels. We were seated right away, our server was wonderful, and we had a good meal and conversation. The restaurant was not too loud, but I could tell it was getting busier. I was surprised when Samm paid for both of us, she told me it was because I paid the last time we met for dinner. She took the picture of me at the top of the post. I gave her another big hug as we walked out to our cars. I hope I can find the time to meet more of her friends, several of whom I have seen in another online forum.
Even though it was still early, I was ready to end the day. It had been so meaningful to me to have these adventures, and I was not even halfway through my weekend.
April 26 was not going to be a day for Tina, as I was visiting my mother to help with some things around the house. I returned home in time to feed the cats and make a simple dinner for myself.
The rest of the evening was spent taking pictures of the other two new dresses I bought. I was not going to put makeup on, as I was waiting to shave on Sunday morning, so these pictures are cropped to hide my face. The lilac pleated dress is cute, although I would probably prefer to lose more weight around my midsection.

The second navy dress has jeweled shoulders and ruching on the sides and back. It looks great with the same navy heels I wore the day before (the exact look the model on the Venus site had for the dress). I even think the dress gives me some definition in my rear, which is not a place I normally show off!

I put on my nightgown and tumbled into bed, dreaming of the wig I had loved. I still had two more days for adventures from this long 5 day weekend, which were just as wonderful.
Hugs, Tina

You look amazing!! Your smile says it all! ❤️
❤️❤️
Tina,
Great dresses. Yes, your smile says it all. I suggest it become your new avitar for Kandi’s Land.
With a bald head, wigs is something I haven’t invested enough time and MONEY into. Maybe this will be the year.
At one time I had hair down to my mid-back (and killer sideburns). Miss those days.
Cali, that’s a fabulous idea, I’ll get our hostess to make that change soon!
I was never going to have long hair, my genetics are too skewed to being bald – I lost most of my hair before turning 25. Due to my limited chances to get out, I haven’t felt I needed to pay a higher price for a wig. But that sentiment is changing. We’ll see what happens when I get the chance to go back.
I picked up a ‘bug’ in the Far East in 1971. Many, many months of antibiotics started my hair lose while I was in high school.
Hi Tina,
Wow, what a great inspiring day you had. I knew how the post was going to go even before I read it just from the happiness that was written all over you face along with that beautiful smile. I love all your photos, you and the dresses look amazing.
Thank you Trish, I feel so happy when I put on a new dress, especially when it looks fantastic!
That’s a fabulous look Tina, I’m very jealous! And of your hands!
Maddie, I am fortunate to be a white-collar worker (software engineer) and don’t use my hands for many other things. I also put lotion on them every night as I go to bed, so that keeps them looking softer. Thanks! 😘
Tina, your outfit choices never cease to delight! Love the blue dress & heels!
And a rendezvous with the plumber too!
Thank you Amanda, I loved this look too.
The rendezvous with the plumber was certainly not planned, but I had no reason not to open the door. At least I was dressed, just finishing my eye makeup when the bell rang. I owned my presentation and he didn’t bat an eye or say anything. Who knows (or cares) if he knew?
Tina,
Navy obviously suits you , very flattering and smart .
I had to bite the bullet and accept the price of wigs , you do get what you pay for and it’s something I knew I had to go with . Wearing them everyday they need to fit well and be totally wearable , the frustrating part is they do have a limited life , I mange to push mine with careful handling up to 18 months . I keep the old ones for working round the house or in winter under a warm hat .
Teresa, I have managed to keep this wig looking okay for a few years, but it’s because I don’t wear it every day. It is nearing the end, which is why I made the appointment in the first place. I’m willing to bite the bullet, although I will keep the old one as a backup for now.
