Buckle up, friendsāthis ride doesnāt come with a height requirement, just a soul-deep one.
One day youāre climbing that first big hill, heart pounding with the terrifying thrill of finally saying āthis is me,ā and the next youāre plunging straight down into the kind of drop that makes your stomach flip and your brain scream āwhat have I done?ā
Welcome to the transgender š¢ roller coaster. No refunds, no exits, but damn is the view worth it.š
The ups? Pure exhilaration. That first time the mirror finally clicks. The way your name sounds in someoneās mouth like it was always meant to be there. The giddy rush of buying clothes that actually feel like you instead of a costume youāve been sweating through for years.
Moments of acceptance that hit like sunshine after a decade of cloudsāfriends who show up, family who try, strangers who just⦠get it. You feel alive in a way you didnāt know was possible. Colors get brighter. Laughter comes easier. You catch yourself dancing in the kitchen like no oneās watching (even though they definitely are, and theyāre smiling).
Then come the downs. š The ones that smack you in the chest at 3 a.m. when dysphoria creeps back in like an uninvited ex. The depression that whispers youāre too much, too late, too broken.
The ridicule that still stingsāside-eye glances, ājokes,ā the casual cruelty of people whoāve never had to question which bathroom matches their soul. The medical waitlists, the paperwork that treats your existence like a bureaucratic puzzle, the family members who mourn a version of you that was never real.
Itās heavy. Some days the coaster just⦠stops mid-loop and youāre hanging there, upside down, wondering if this was all a mistake.
But hereās the plot twist nobody puts on the brochure: the ride itself is the point. Every loop, every scream, every white-knuckle grip on the safety bar is forging something unbreakable. We chose thisānot because itās easy, but because pretending was killing us slowly.
šWe chose authenticity over comfort, truth over approval, and that kind of courage doesnāt come with training wheels.
To every trans person white-knuckling it right now: youāre not alone on this wild ride. The community is the best partāthe ones who throw their hands up and yell with you on the drops, who share snacks mid-ride, who remind you the track was built by people who felt exactly like you do.
ā¤ļøTo the allies reading this: your āI see youā matters more than you know. Itās the difference between riding solo and having someone in the seat next to you saying āweāve got this.ā
The coaster doesnāt slow down, but we get better at screaming with joy instead of fear. We learn to laugh at the ridiculous parts (yes, I did cry in a dressing room because the jeans finally fit rightāsend help and tacos). We collect the small wins like tickets at the fair and trade them for bigger ones.
So hereās to all of us on this chaotic, beautiful, ridiculous journey. Keep your hands and heart inside the ride at all times. The next hill is coming, and I promiseāthe view from the top is everything.
Who else is strapped in for life?

Letās normalize the whole damn thing. š

The Sliding Scale of Sanity: Why Transgenderism Isnāt a Light Switch
This is really deep and I’m sure it’ll piss off some on both spectrums. But hear me out. I feel this view is rational and compassionate.

Look, Iāve written a ton on male-to-female transitions, and if thereās one thing that makes my blood boil while cracking me up at the same time, itās how the loudest voices turn biology and psychology into some binary on/off switch.
Like, āPoof! š„Youāre a woman now because you said the magic words and put on the dress.ā Bullshit. Reality is messier, funnier, and way more human than that. Itās two goddamn sliding scales, not a damn checkbox.
Picture this: One scale for the physicalāyour hardware, the body you rolled out of the genetic lottery with. On the far left, 100% male: š¤¼āāļø broad shoulders, beard that grows back five minutes after shaving, voice like a gravel truck, and enough testosterone to fuel a small army. Far right, 100% female: šÆāāļøthe whole package, curves, reproductive setup, the works. Most people cluster hard at one end or the other because, surprise, ševolution didnāt give a crap about your feelings.
Then youāve got the mental scaleāthe software, the way your brain experiences the world, preferences, instincts, the inner narrator that whispers (or screams) who you are. Again, most folks are stacked near the ends. But hereās where it gets interesting, and where the activists lose their minds: 𤯠these scales donāt have to line up perfectly.
Take the classic exampleāthe 6ā4ā, 280-pound NFL linebacker. Physical scale? 100% male, built like a refrigerator with legs. Could bench-press a Prius. But suppose his mental scale is slid way overā75%, 80%, hell, even 90% female.
Preferences, emotional wiring, the whole internal landscape screaming āthis body is wrong.ā Thatās not some trendy identity; thatās a female mind trapped in a linebacker body. Brutal.
The converse happens too: a petite woman whose brain is running full male softwareāaggression, spatial reasoning dialed to 11, zero interest in the frilly stuff. Sheās not āconfusedā; the scales just didnāt sync.
And then you have the vast middle: the 40-60% folks where things get fuzzy. Not full extremes, but enough mismatch to cause real distress. This is where nuance lives. Because the current conversation doesnāt do nuance. It wants validation on demand. āI identify asā¦ā and suddenly biology is hate speech. Sorry, sweetheart, šyour feelings donāt rewrite chromosomes. We can acknowledge the mismatch and offer real support without pretending every intervention is a perfect fix.
For the kids and teens wrestling with this, my heart genuinely goes out to them. Puberty can be a brutal storm even without extra layers of confusion.
Some are dealing with trauma, autism, social pressures, or just the natural turbulence of growing up. When a young person feels their mind and body are at war, thatās real pain, and they deserve compassionate, careful explorationānot rush-to-treatment slogans. Many desisters naturally see their scales rebalance over time and go on to live comfortably as their biological sex.
Others may carry deeper dysphoria into adulthood. The compassionate path is thorough mental health support, time, and avoiding irreversible steps during that highly plastic phase of development. We can hold space for their struggles without turning every case into an immediate medical pipeline. Hey, I totally agree that some need the works both chemical and physical but I feel it must be absolutely sure from multiple doctors (parents and child too) before doing the irreversible. Not just affirmations in the cloak of love š. Sometimes parents need to give guardrails and that could be love š too. My point is this: be really sure.
The humor in the adult absurdity still writes itself: watching a 6ā2ā former dude in heels trying to āpassā while lecturing actual women about āpunching up.ā The sarcasm flows easy: āYes, queenāslay those bone density differences!ā
The point isnāt to mock suffering. Real dysphoria exists, just like real depression or body integrity issues. Some people are genuinely wired crosswise, and compassion means honest, individualized support rather than one-size-fits-all affirmation.
The sliding scales explain the spectrum without the ideological capture. Most men are mostly male in body and mind. Most women, the reverse. The mismatches are real, sometimes painful edge casesānot the new normal weāre supposed to rewrite society around.
Societyās job isnāt to gaslight reality or build entire legal systems around every sliding position. Itās to treat people as individuals, offer genuine help to those in distress (especially the young), and push back against the extremists who insist the rare cases justify erasing sex-based categories in sports, prisons, and bathrooms. My humble opinion of course.
Two scales. One messy human experience. Stop pretending itās simple. With a bit more honesty, nuance, and actual compassion, maybe we can help the people truly stuck in the mismatch without sacrificing truth, fairness, or a functioning society.
Thatās the antidote to the nonsense.
Remember it next time someone demands you ignore the linebacker in the lingerieāor dismiss the quiet suffering of a kid whose scales havenāt settled yet.

Iām going to say something I usually only think.
If certain corners of the internet leave you angry, drained, or smaller than when you arrived, stop giving them your time. Walk away. When enough of us quit feeding the noise with our clicks, comments, and outrage, those spaces lose their fuel and start to wither.
I mostly practice what I preach. I block and delete people whose only interest is tearing someone down. But every now and then I get a little jolly from teasing themālike a cat batting around a ball of yarn. Itās fun in small doses. I only do it occasionally, though, because I protect my truth the way a pit bull guards a T-bone. My confidence is solid enough that no troll can touch it.
For most people, though, the smarter move is to let it go. You wonāt convert them. You just hand them the reaction they came hunting for. Every minute spent in that fight is a minute stolen from building something betterālike fortifying your belief in yourself.
So I have to ask: why keep reading the posts that only exist to poke at you? Why keep showing up in places that reward cruelty? That choice belongs to you. But if what you actually want is a calmer, more decent space for transgender people (and everyone else), the first practical step is refusing to live in the ones that celebrate the opposite.
Iām not a fan of safe spaces. Friction is how you grow a spine and the muscle to stay strong. So be judicious. Decide carefully when to walk away and when to play with the yarn.
Some people wonāt like hearing this. Thatās okay.
Iād rather risk losing their approval than abandon the truth I worked so hard to claim.
Protect your peace. Put your energy where it can actually grow something good⦠like your flower.
