Midsummer’s Night and Day

She's (almost) back to back!

By Tina Davis

After I got home from dinner on August 1, 2024, I wanted to put on the remaining two new dresses I received from Venus and take some pictures. Both of them are made from a thicker fabric with some stretch to them, so I expected they would fit nicely. The first one is actually a red color, but in the light of my lamps, it shows much more orange. This dress has a front tie waist, with the ends attached to the side. I put on my nude heels for a clean look and started posing.

The black-and-white dress was one that I have been watching for months. The color blocking is to highlight my curves (even manufactured ones!) and define my waist. I am extremely happy with this look, paired with my black pumps. It works as well for the office (with a black blazer) as it does for a night out on the town (bare arms or with a white wrap). I can’t wait to find an occasion to wear it out!

After taking lots of pictures, I took off the dress, makeup, and wig, put on a cute nightgown, and went to bed. I had two appointments in the morning that I needed to be in male mode for, but there was also time to get out once more.

I woke up early on August 2 to get ready for a physical therapy session (dealing with lower back pain and getting older is no fun). My nails were still painted and I put on a Pride t-shirt to see if I got any reactions. The receptionist liked my shirt, but neither she nor my therapist commented on the nails. When I got back home, I made a short list of things I needed at CVS, then changed into this summer print romper and my wedge sandals. I added some daytime makeup and took a few more photos before heading out the door.

I found everything on my list at CVS, used the self checkout and saved big bucks with my account, and took my bag home. I had to change back to male mode, as my two cats had appointments to get their nails clipped. I was easily able to grab them and put them in the carriers, load them in the car, and drive to the groomer. I was very lucky to get a parking spot in front of the store, as it was another hot day. The groomers were busy but took the cats one at a time and quickly returned them. As I went up to pay, the young woman gushed over my nail color. I thanked her and said that I had wanted a different color and was quite happy with it.

I spent the afternoon cleaning up and putting away all my clothes, shoes, and makeup, and then taking off the polish on my toes. I wanted to be ready to drive myself to the airport and join my wife and daughter. Of course, almost every flight was delayed out of Boston due to the storms impacting airports all along the East coast. I went to an airport restaurant and got some dinner, sitting at the bar with other travelers who were also delayed. No one commented on my nails, either at the restaurant or on the flight. Once I arrived in Chicago, I stopped to remove the blue polish before getting in a taxi to the hotel.

I packed a lot of fun into those two days, for which I am very grateful. I had not expected to get an opportunity to get out until later this year, and maybe not until the winter. I am happy to share my little adventures with all of you and tell you the same thing that Kandi and every other contributor says: Go out and be yourself, be visible and respectful, be confident and happy, and the world will be happy for you in return.

Hugs,

Tina

  1. Tina,
Love the two dresses! I also love how you pushed the envelope a little and kept your polish on when going to multiple places! Keep being you ❤️.

    Stay beautiful-Sherry

    1. Yes, I did push a little bit with the nail polish and felt fine doing so. I’ve reached the DGAF stage for the most part!

  2. Tina,
I love the dresses, you look great in them.

Well done. I’m glad to hear you had two wonderful days.

  3. Tina,
I’m glad you enjoyed your days to be Tina and try out your latest buys , I like the black block style works well on you . Please take care with blue shades of nail polish it can be very staining , it’s very hard to shift the tell tale bring ring around the nail , while it’s not a problem for me now I’ve chosen to stop using blue shades .

So now your thoughts are for the next time , It’s so hard to switch off from them and think about the different wardrobe you’ll be wearing with the expected change in the weather .

  4. Teresa, I use polish remover pads from Ulta that do a great job, even on darker colors like blue or red. It takes a bit of work and multiple pads, but I make sure that nothing is left around the base of the nails.

The black-and-white is definitely my favorite of the dresses I got, while I may not know when I will get out again, I want to make sure I have the chance to wear it. Thanks!

  5. Tina,
I agree the black and white dress looks great on you. And I know you enjoyed having blue nails for more than a few hours. Invest in some real salon quality nail tools and they will help with clean up.
I always like nail polish and hated to have to clean it off right away to return to ‘male’ mode.
I started to wear toe nial polish 24/7 15 years ago. Simple tints at first, but now I like sparkles, glitter, and almost any color other than red. My nail tech enjoyes doing my toes because I challegence her to do different things. She gets tried on the same old color everytime.
About 10 years ago I had fingernail issues and ended up needing to have a few acrylic nails. I reached the DGAF point (almost 70) and now sport a full set of (long) acrylic nails with gel color. Tomorrow is my regular mani/pedi day; what colors will I chose?

    1. Cali, I would be ecstatic to wear polish 24/7. I did on my toes for a while during the pandemic but got tired of having to hide it. Even getting a clear coat on my fingers can set off my wife, so I don’t rock the boat and only get color when I’m going out dressed. Thanks for the compliment on the black-and-white dress. ❤️
