MIX: Man of Steel

Celebrating Northern Ohio's finest!

It’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s a super MIX! Dance the night away at MIX: Man of Steel, a party celebrating Cleveland’s hometown superhero, Superman. This evening’s musical entertainment featured Wave Magnetik (aka Donald Malloy), an Ohio-based producer and trumpeter, mixing a set of electronic dance music incorporating original music, contemporary favorites, and even an occasional remixed superhero theme song.  Back at it, April 3, 2026. We all know, I have a fondness of Superman, since he allowed me to be in his most recent movie…just sayin’.

But before we move forward, let me pay homage to (for me) a bigger hometown superhero (Superman was actually conceived by a Clevelander), The Black Keys! Okay kids, let’s get current, in an old school fashion. These Akronites built their spectacular careers on the blues. Akron (I live in the same county) has given us arguably a top 3-5 all-time basketball player and philanthropist (I have witnessed that), rubber and The Black Keys. They broke nationally with the album Brothers, then put out an amazing disc, El Camino, followed by Turn Blue. And they kept it going. My personal fav is Turn Blue, from 2014 (although El Camino graces a portion of my office walls). Let’s get a little “Fever”!

I’ve seen them a few times and loved every minute of it. My initial exposure to them was oddly during my sabbatical in the bucolic hills of West Virginia some years ago. But again, I digress…

Thank you for indulging me my musical passions here and now, how was The Man of Steel? Solid. Okay, low hanging fruit, but I generally take advantage of that.

I have taken now to really make a visual statement at MIX! Last month, my Madonna look. This time (and I was NOT going for Lois Lane as many said there or Britney Spears, although I see that one), I was feeling all schoolgirl! This outfit actually came to me in a dream (conceived of pieces I mostly already owned). The evening was maybe one of my best there, despite it being lightly attended (the theme, great weather and Guardians home opener kept the crowd down). Friend after friend, my face sore from smiling. That day started for me at 11:00PM the day prior, drove all night well into the morning, came home, worked out (a day is not a day without a workout) and got ready. Then I did the fun photoshoot to follow here. On my way to the museum, I stopped and had a few Old Fashioneds (first drinks of the week!) and a lovely conversation with the bartender. I hit the sack late, logging about an hour of sleep in the 24 hours of this day.

Here is an outfit I am rather proud of and some fun I had this day!

For the record, those are actually textbooks from a member our household who is a doctor (the other one having mastered one of the most difficult math related careers and me, a dumb shit).

The pictures below with some friends were taken at “Kandi’s Korner:’ my long-time post at the East escalators of the museum. I spend three hours there, once a month and gather the love! Many, many friendships were born there, which subsequently created friendships for others.

Many wake up with no idea where their next meal will come from.

Be Grateful.

  1. Today is the Boston Marathon and next Monday is the Big Sur Marathon, just saying. Did you see the robots running the 1/2 marathon in China? 13.5 miles in under 55 minutes.

The “school girl” outfit is nice and the socks complete the look. Next time use one of my textbook in your photoshoot.
