Changing yourself, in a transgender context, means letting go of what society has taught you and learning what truly helps you transform the person you feel on the inside. Embracing what the masses say is acceptable is not what we do. There’s nothing wrong with that, but you have an option to choose to be exceptional.
THE “A” WORD.
These values about what society says is “normal” are fine for most people. However, you’re not like most people, are you? You are NOT the “A” Word.
The “A” word is, wait for it, AVERAGE.
To have lived experiences embracing male and female makes you a Unicorn. You have a superpower that makes you unique in a world of average.
But how do you move from average to exceptional?
Wise words from Yoda, here are.
Yoda from Star Wars wisely said, “You must unlearn what you have learned.” This means you need to make space for new ideas by questioning and replacing old beliefs if they don’t benefit you anymore.
Old ingrained, even cherished beliefs, can hinder your transformation to a Unicorn. These need to be replaced. You do this by research, study, and active participation.
Think in New Ways
To truly change, you need to be open to new ideas and leave behind outdated ways of thinking. Just like an old computer can’t run new programs, old beliefs can’t support a new, authentic life.
It’s time to update how you think. Stop group think and simply copy and pasting the thoughts of others. Your thinking muscle must be used and strengthened.
Then, to move from mental preparation to physical. Your mental must be strong and in sync with your physical vision of yourself or no matter what you do on the outside, you’ll still not be happy.
Community support, a coach or therapist can help you fortify your mental muscles in preparation for the long, hard and painful road that is exterior change. My book Trans Truth can help you as well (Amazon and Audible). You can get it here.
No one said changing to be the Unicorn was easy, that’s why we’re so unique. 🦄

Gwen,
It’s becoming harder to describe what is “normal” in modern life ( thank goodness !) people who try and cling onto it find it hard to accept change . Society still exerts pressure to comply but the question is comply with what ? Outdated ideas , as you comment expecting new programs to run on an old computer ( as promised by Microsoft !!) doesn’t work .
Of course we must transform , I soon discovered that when I went full time , we have to let old ideas go , we have to find ways to make the person you’ve become work and NO we can never can be AVERAGE . We have moved the goalposts , we have rewritten the rules , it’s up to us to educate people to understand and accept them . Kandi has done a great job in that respect , I know her rules are different from mine so I’ve gained acceptance in a different way .
