Oasis

While it was a few weeks ago, this day was a one-off opportunity during some trying times.

It was Thursday, May 13, 2021, three days after my father’s passing and the day before the wake and funeral the day after. All the decisions had been made and this one day was an oasis to get out a bit before our daughters came home for a few days. So I patched together a plan for a few hours and got dressed.

If you recall the story of when I was almost completely dressed and my Dad called to take him to the ER. That day I had planned a Happy Hour with friends and I was going to wear the outfit I ended up wearing on this day. I got dressed and did some work on the blog before heading out the door (and polished off a bottle of wine). Don’t worry, it was just the one glass you see here, done mostly for the photo.

My first stop was Avalon Exchange where I sold more there than I ever had before. I took the cash option and left feeling good.

Then I went to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I’ve been there often, so I simply slowly walked through, just enjoying being in public. There were a few new things, but nothing big. The Cubs had just been in town to play the Indians, so there were quite a few Cubs fans there.

I needed to pick up a few things for the post-funeral luncheon, so I stopped at Giant Eagle on the way home and did some shopping.

No big story, but a gorgeous day, bright sunshine and cool. It was simply great to have this time. I am blessed.

  1. Just getting and being who we are is always a pleasure
I know for me most of my outings are a short half hour grocery shopping and today I actually went in mask free since I’m fully vaccinated
It was bliss as you describe Kandi
Bless you and your family as you go through this period of grief but also remembering
    Love ya Rach

    1. Thanks Rach. In real time, we are through with all the end of life stuff (except the paperwork, unfortunately). The grieving process for me was short since I was grieving the loss of my father for the past few months as we watched him deteriorate. Life simply isn’t fair all the time.

      Love you too!!

  2. As I have said before, I having been thinking about you and your family. While wakes and funeral are inherently sad occasions, they are celebrations of someone’s life, in this case your dad’s. I hope it was this way for you. Family and friends help in making it so. Glad you were able to find some time for yourself in the midst of all the things that have to be done. Take care.

    1. This was the first such loss of someone this close to me in terms of life and family (of course, I have know many who have passed) so it was different. You really learn a lot about people, good and bad, in these times. Thanks dear!!
